"Does what it's supposed to"2009-04-24 By Morgan Williams (Seattle, WA USA) We had one of these in the last office I worked in, which was a converted older house. It worked fantastically well, it was quiet, and really cooled down all four rooms from the central area between them.
My only complaint is that, unless things have changed since we got ours, the instructions were minimal and almost incomprehensible. It was a Chinese translation, if I remember right, and I ended up having to go on their web site to puzzle out how half the controls even worked.
That aside, highly recommended as an alternative to a window-mounted A/C, especially if you ever need to move it to other areas - an almost impossible task with window-mounted units.
"Works great and can cool multiple rooms"2007-07-14 By Amy Schulthess This unit is just right for taking the edge off of a hot day in an otherwise temperate climate (like the Bay Area). Can cool down one or multiple rooms 5 to 10 degrees. The output vent fits just right into a sliding door. Perfect if you don't have the option of installing a higher-output window-mounted unit. It also runs quiet, indoors and outdoors.

"Blue Blower"2008-06-30 By M. Cordier (forest,va) This fan is very compact, built for the long haul. There are cheaper fans out there, even look the same but if it isn't a blue blower you get what you pay for.The price paid is in my opinion a bargain, others might not think so. The fan is very light weight and quiet, puts out an amazing amount of air,has a long heavy duty cord and 2 receptacles to plug in power tools.I should have gotten this a long time ago. As far as i'm concerned their are no drawbacks to this fan,
"Very Handy Fan"2007-07-04 By Palm Trees (New Jersey) I had a similar home made fan using an AC motor/blower for more than ten years before it finally burned out. I saw this unit and thought I'd give it a try. It is quite a bit smaller than I thought it would be but it puts out a great stream of air right where you need it as it can be pointed up, down, straight or at an angle so you can set it where you need it. It has three speeds and I almost always use the lowest setting because I like to have the fan close to me and pointed directly at me. Having lived in Florida and Texas most of my life, I've come to rely on always having a fan handy. This one is light and portable and even has two extension plugs on the sides so you can plug your tools in while keeping cool.
A couple of downsides - it is light weight but the plastic doesn't do a good job of making this unit as quiet as it could be. Another concern is that I would not trust knocking it off a workbench onto concrete as I'm not sure how well it would fare. All in all though, it turned out to be a good replacement for my old large and heavy A/C unit and puts out all the air I need.

"A joke of a product, a joke of a company"2009-08-31 By Danbucks Don't buy this product, don't buy ANYTHING from Soleus.
These units have got to be some of the worst manufacturing quality I've seen in a long time. The first one arrived with internal (i.e. not shipping) damage: the swing fins were completely severed, along with a few other things.
The second unit arrived, and, (with hindsight), was assembled with damaged parts (e.g. the internal evaporative/heat/condensation fins have dents and large-impact damage all over the place), where at least some of these parts broke very quickly:
I didn't know it at the time, and now the unit is out of warranty, but: the condensation/water pump slowly got worse and worse, until now it is 100% broken:
it binds itself on power start. It is poorly designed.
Looking at the other reviews, I am guessing most units have this pump fail.
The end result is the unit turning off the AC/compressor after about 20 minutes, with the "water full" light turning on. The unit also fails to restart the compressor once the water is drained, without a power cycle.
Not only did the company refuse to send me a new part (virtually every large appliance company will at least sell to customers with a no-refund policy), they refused to list anyone in the area who could repair/order this part on my behalf. In a nutshell, they offer no support whatsoever (or even an apology) for their product, a product which is flawed to begin with.
A bogus product, a bogus company.
"GREAT A/C"2008-10-02 By Jeremy R. Higashiyama (Rancho Cucamunga, California) I had an Amcor a/c for a long time and still have it and works great... I decided to get a new a/c since I wanted one with a remote for it since I had lost my remote for my Amcor recently... I love this a/c so far I have had it for a little while and out of the other reviews written so far... I will admit that I did have a problem with overloading the breaker even with nothing plugged in but a laptop and a lamp with a flourescent light... I had to plug my air conditioner by using an 1875 Watt Heavy Duty Extension cord and have it go out the window to the garage below... ITS VERRRRY QUIET! The heater works pretty well... Just know its not like a regular heater its about a medium temperature heat and will not get to the point where it will burn your fingers off like a normal heater... The remote is great, though it should be made into a normal looking thermostat that you see on a central air conditioner... The remote reacts differently and is used like a thermostat where it waits like 2 seconds or until your done setting it and then it changes the air conditioner/heater settings... One small problem I ran into were the tubes... one brings in the air and the other vents it out... the one that vents the air out can get REAAAALLY hot and it HAS to be insulated with something wrapped around it anything will do even a pillow case... the air going in isnt as hot but can get pretty warm on hot days outside since its using outdoor air... For this air conditioner I give it 5 Stars and will admit it DOES work! Now I have not run into the flooding problems like anyone else but I guess we will see... Then again I am guessing its shipping damage!
"Overated BTU's"2006-10-19 By Unbiased Opinion (Maryland) We attempted to use this unit to cool a small computer room.(10x10x8 insulated)Without any cooling the room would get to about 85 degrees. With the unit set to 68 degrees the best it can do is take the temp down to 77 degrees. Some may say we are expecting too much from this unit but I owned a 12,000 btu window unit for my home and I can tell you this unit does not put out any where near the same amount of cold air. I can guarantee my old window unit would keep this little room cool(cold). From what I have read it appears all of these portable units are way overated for their BTU's. I would estimate the output as being 50% of what they are advertising. The two duct design is a great idea but the exhaust duct creates a tremendous amount of radiant heat to the point of being counter-productive to the cool air being produced.
"don't waste your money"2006-07-17 By Joe Bruin (CA) I didn't buy the soleus mac12K at amazon but rather from a retail outlet here in southern CA. After being disappointed with an earlier purchase that I made online, I decided to go into a brick and mortar store and ask the relevent questions.
I was told by the salesman that the reason that the previous air conditioner doesn't work was becuase of the single hose exhuast. The soleus, with it's dual hose design and 12000 btu of cooling power would make my 170 sq ft room freeze. That turned out to be an outright lie.
I started out by testing the air conditioner in the living room with a sliding door. The unit worked well for the first few minutes, cooling the room from about 90 to 87 degrees. Then the compressor would stop running and the cooling mode acted like fan mode and started heating the room back to over 90 degrees. I would be able to get the compressor to work again by unplugging the ac plug and then starting the ac again. The same problem repeated.
Then I moved the air conditioner into the kitchen. It was about 95 degrees to begin with and it only got to 92 and did not drop even after an hour. There were no problems here with the compressor turning off for no reason.
Then I moved the air condtioner into the bedroom. It was able to cool the room down only a few degrees. Besides being loud, it also takes up a lot of current, 12A to be exact and 1350W of power. This would repeatedly trip up the circuit breaker if other appliances such as iron or computers were to be used that were on the same circuit.
The air conditioner appeared to work better when the outside temperature was below 80 degrees. But even then, it does not cool the room below 72. But with the outside temperature in the mid to upper 90s, the room would be in the mid to upper 80s. About the only thing that worked as advertised was that there was no bucket to empty.
I ended up returning the unit after a week with a 25% restocking fee. I was offered an exchange but didnt' even bother.
"temperature control useless"2008-11-28 By Lance B. Sjogren (San Pedro, Ca United States) I have Cadet wall heaters in my apartment. One of these 2000 watt units in the living room, two 1000 watt units in the 2 bedrooms.
As far as I can tell, the thermostats are useless. Just as an example:
I have one of the 1000 watt units turned on in my bedroom right now. The room is 68-69 degrees. If you turn the thermostat all the way down to shut the heater off, and then turn it up until the heater turns on, it turns on at about 62 degrees. If you then turn it down until the heater goes off, it turns off at about 54 degrees.
That's an 8 degree swing. And the setpoints are WAY off from the actual temperature in the room.
I don't understand why I don't see a lot of complaints on the internet about this kind of heater. I don't think it's just Cadet, I think it's the particular type of thermostat, no matter who the manufacturer. I believe these are what are called "bimetallic" thermostats. As far as I can tell they are utterly useless. All they are good for is as an on off switch.
At least that is my opinion based on my own experience. If I'm missing something, someone please point it out to me.
Has anyone ever been actually able to control the temperature within a reasonable range with these? If so please speak up and explain how you were able to do so.
"should have bigger forced air fan"2008-01-27 By A. Jones (Fargo, ND) Cadet #67507 2000W Wall Fan Heater Plenty of heat, wish the forced air fan was bigger. If I were to buy one again I think I would have gone with the next size bigger from Cadet. I have one in my family room and love it, this one just doesn't blow the hot air. I worry about it over-heating.
